The busy retail building is located on an industrial estate just outside the centre of Bolsward. The exterior façade is made of Sendzimir galvanised steel with a concrete edge at the base. That lower section showed quite a bit of wear and tear.

The lower part of the façade – the black edge in the photo – had been painted, but over the years it had suffered considerable wear. Weathering, dirt, dust, and exhaust fumes had severely damaged the paint layer. The result: pronounced discolouration, craquelure, and large areas where the paint was flaking and powdering. The fact that it was a smooth concrete surface made the challenge even greater.

Harm from Verf van der Feer didn’t take long to assess the situation. He contacted Schilderwerken De Schakel from nearby Folsgare, specialists in a range of wall finishes. Harm advised them to – after cleaning, removing loose paint, sanding, and dusting – apply two coats of Zinsser^® Allcoat Exterior Matt or Satin. This primer-and-topcoat-in-one adheres exceptionally well to concrete, is highly flexible, and provides excellent colour retention.

Schilderwerken De Schakel followed Harm’s advice and got to work with Zinsser^® Allcoat Exterior. Thanks in part to its short drying time, the painters were able to complete the job in a single day. The wall now looks beautifully smooth and black once again, fully protected against sun, wind, rain and pollution. The new coating is also more resistant to temperature fluctuations. And the client? They are pleased that the work was completed quickly and to their satisfaction, with minimal disruption for their customers.
